Two representatives from Best Buddies Indiana, Mary McClamroch and Natalie Seibert, joined other Best Buddies representatives and Special Olympics representatives on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 to urge members of Congress to pass the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act.
This new legislation will continue the legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver by authorizing funding for specific programs supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
During Capitol Hill Day, the Best Buddies Indiana representatives; Mike Furnish, President and CEO of Special Olympics Indiana; Jason Plante, Special Olympics Athlete; and Joan Wheatley, VP of Develpment for Special Olympics, represented Indiana programs and met with members of Congress and their staff members to garner support for the new legislation in honor of Mrs. Shriver.
Mary McClamroch, a participant in the Butler University Best Buddies chapter, shared the following about her Capitol Hill Day experience, "I always knew that my family and friends cared about me, but it made me feel good to know that important people on Capitol Hill also care about people with intellectual disabilities." |
